Breland Crudup

Research and Personal Statement
Breland was born and raised in Jackson, MS as the youngest of 4 children to Bobby and Maggie Crudup. Breland graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tougaloo College in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science major in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. While in undergrad, he was a member of the Jackson Heart Study and took part in two summer research programs, BWH STARS and SCTRP, both through Harvard Medical School, as well as various research opportunities present at Tougaloo. After graduating from Tougaloo, Breland attended and graduated from UMMC School of Medicine with his MD in 2021 and is now currently a student in the department of Physiology and Biophysics. Breland has a strong interest in genetics and the biomechanics of various organs and has been working with Drs. Alexander, George, Chade, and Spradley. Upon graduation, Breland plans to apply to a Neurology residency where he can integrate his medical knowledge with research to aid in treatments for rare diseases.
